First step to FIT is to FEEL the call to change.
Kristi Lightfoot is originally from Louisiana where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and practiced as an RN for 14 years, specializing in mental health. After taking time off to raise and homeschool 4 children, including 2 adopted with special-needs, Kristi re-entered the workforce, feeling called to change how she helped people with their physical and mental health. Instead of caring for sick people in the hospital as a nurse AFTER they became ill, she decided she'd rather be proactive, teaching people how to best care for themselves to PREVENT illness in the first place. But how?
Second step to FIT is to get INSPIRED.
In addition to her education and experience in nursing and mental health, Kristi has had a life-long passion for dance and baton twirling, teaching professionally with Marching Auxiliaries of American in over 15 states and also directing her own DanceTwirl Programs (The Terrebonne Twirlers and The Lake Charles Starlets). Kristi enjoyed formal training in ballet, tap, jazz, and baton twirling and served on many dance, twirl, and color guard teams, including the Nicholls State University Dance Team as well as Majorette Line. Kristi is a Certified Baton Twirling Coach through USTA (United States Twirling Association) and a choreographer. She has choreographed professionally for regional events (including parades, competitions, and recitals); out-of-state events (including color guard and twirling half-time shows); and national events (including the Orange Bowl half-time show). So Kristi decided to combine her love for helping people with her love of music, movement, and dance and obtained her certification as a Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and her license as a Zumba Instructor through Zumba Fitness. For 7 years, she resided in Alaska working in the Wellness Department of an Indian Tribe Corporation as a Certified Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor, Health Educator, and Mental Health Specialist. As Fitness Supervisor, Kristi designed and delivered health presentations to all ages and is proud of her work developing new programs for the Alaska Natives that she served. Kristi helped create and facilitate the following adult programs: Diabetes Prevention, Chronic Illness Education, Osteoporosis Prevention, Weight Loss Challenge & Accountability, and an Elders Exercise Outreach. Some of the youth programs Kristi created for Alaska Native children include: Kenaitze KidStrong for Head Start preschoolers, an After-School Fitness Program for Native Youth Olympics, and Healthy Choices Program for K-3rd grade. In addition, Kristi also helped develop a Wellness Employee Program at Kenaitze for over 300 employees, offering Circuit Training, Zumba, Dance, Barre, and Personal Training. Kristi also taught Family Fitness, Circuit Training, Dance Fitness, and Home Schooling PE at the Recreation Center. On her time off, she enjoyed snow shoeing in the winter and kayaking in the summer. She was inspired by the majestic beauty of Alaska to be active outdoors and to rekindle her passion for dance and transformed her own life. (Ask Kristi about losing over 60 pounds on her own weight-loss journey). How could the combination of these inspirations that led to HER transformation lead to inspiring others to achieve THEIRS?
Third step to FIT is to find a passion that can lead to health and well-being and TRAIN!
After moving back to the south, Kristi worked as a Wellness Coordinator for RehabCare along-side Physical and Occupational Therapists, delivering Health Education and Fitness Programming to Seniors in Assisted Living. Kristi also worked as a Dance Instructor and Enrichment Specialist for the YMCA of Greater Williamson County and taught over 80 students in 10 elementary schools prior to Covid-19. Looking at her experiences, Kristi reflected on her education, gifts, and passions to determine how she might fuse them all together to best serve others. She decided she would combine the science of nursing, health, and fitness with the art of music, movement, and dance to bring others the best of both worlds in their pursuit of life-long wellness which has led to the creation of Lightfoot DanceFIT. Whether you're looking for creative ways to keep your kids active or looking for that little extra help to get yourself moving again, using music, movement, and dance is a great way to find joy in your physical activity, no matter what activity you love.
